This large epidemiologic cohort study in Bangladesh prospectively examines the health effects of arsenic among 12,000 men and women who have been chronically exposed to a wide range of arsenic through contaminated drinking water. The initial focus is on skin lesions and mortalities but the cohort study will aims to ultimately examine other cancers and non-cancer outcomes in relation to both high and low dose range exposure to arsenic. The study also provides opportunities to evaluate nutritional and pharmacologic inteventions for preventing and mitigating the health problems.
