Chronic Disease Management in the Russian Federation
College of Physicians and Surgeons

The EMEP Program in the Russian Federation began as a continuing medical-education program in hypertension and cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and tuberculosis. We have transformed and evolved the program to one which emphasizes chronic-disease management, a concept designed to permit the established Russian medical-education infrastructure and broad health-care delivery system to emerge in a cost-effective and care-enhancing program aimed at moderating and preventing the most devastating diseases in that society. We are currently participating in setting up such programs in four Russian cities, with plans to expand to new regions.
